What is a Fiancé Visa?

If you are looking to get married in the United Kingdom (UK) under the fiancé route, you must meet the eligibility criteria of the Home Office.  Your sponsor must hold either a British Passport or Indefinite Leave to remain in the UK. The applicant and sponsor must have meet each other at least once face to face. The fiancé visa allows the applicant to enter to the UK with a six-month multiple entry visa.

What is the eligibility criteria for a Fiancé Visa?

  • The Applicant and Sponsor must be in a genuine relationship
  • The sponsor must meet the financial requirement, the minimum requirement is £18,600 or have enough savings to be able to support you without claiming public funds. If you have any additional child dependant adding £2400 to the minimum requirement
  • The sponsor must have suitable accommodation in the UK
  • The applicant must meet the English language requirements for the visa.
  • The couple must be able to portray that they intend to marry in the UK

What are the requirements for a Fiancé Visa?

What are the processing times for the Fiancé Visa?

Can I apply for a Fiancé Visa using Premium Service?

You can reduce the application processing time by half or sometimes to just few weeks if you chose to upgrade your application to a Premium option.

A Premium application will cost you extra fees, but it will place your case ahead of the queue with a likelihood of receiving the outcome sooner.

What are the fees for the Fiancé Visa?

The Home Office fee is £1,538 for any application outside the United Kingdom.

If your application centre is one of the selected User-pay centres for the application in your country. You may be charged additional fees to book an appointment in those centres.

What is the length of Visa for a Fiancé Visa?

Once the Visa is approved you will receive a 6-month multiple entry Fiancé Visa to enter the United Kingdom for the purpose of getting married.

After your wedding, you can then switch from a Fiancé Visa over to a Marriage/Spouse Visa without leaving the United Kingdom.

What are the financial requirements for a Fiancé Visa?

The Sponsor who is the British National or Settled person must meet the financial requirement set by the Home Office to sponsor a Foreign National under the fiancé visa.

The minimum requirement is £18,600 before tax if the applicant does not have any dependents.

If they have one child dependent, the sponsor will need an income of 22,400 before tax to meet the financial requitement. For any additional children, the sponsor will need to show an extra £2,400 of each child.

Who is exempt from financial requirements for a Fiancé Visa?

The sponsor will be exempt from meeting the financial requirement if he or she is claiming one of the following benefits:

  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment or Guaranteed Income Payment under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme
  • Constant Attendance Allowance, Mobility Supplement or War Disablement Pension under the War Pensions Scheme
  • Police Injury Pension

What are the English Language requirements for a Fiancé Visa?

The applicant must meet the English language requirements by the following:

  • Passing a UKVI approved English test
  • Being a national of a majority English speaking country
  • Having an academic qualification which is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree or PhD if awarded in the United Kingdom, or, if awarded outside the United Kingdom, is deemed by UK NARIC.

The English test are Valid for two years from the date of the test. If you have used a test in a previous application that has been successfull you may be able to reuse that test again.

 

Who is exempt from the English Test for a Fiancé Visa?

If you are under 18 or over 65 years old, you will be exempt from meeting the English language test requirements

Alternatively, if you cannot sit the English test due to a disability (physical or mental) you will not be required to meet the English language requirement.
